Re: 96 Ranger 2.3 wont set readiness for 02 or Cat ***FIXED
Thanks for letting us know the fix. And, yes, your find is another reminder that in our diagnosis we should not assume the customer is telling the correct story. Also, do not assume that what the customer says is new may not be the same definition for us. Good job!!!!!! Thanks much, Ive had it I th...

Re: 96 Ranger 2.3 wont set readiness for 02 or Cat
FIXED! Never assume "new" parts are that. Since you guys brought it up I decided to take the sensors out and look at them. Rear O2 was a Bosch sensor and sensor looked nice and new. The front sensor was the ORIGINAL sensor and the mechanic before wiped it down so it appeared new but was far from. Th...

Re: 96 Ranger 2.3 wont set readiness for 02 or Cat
I'm sure you checked the obvious, but I'll run through some common things...... 1. Fuse for KAM. Sometimes this blows and monitors reset every key cycle. KAM is good as is the battery. All other monitors stay set as complete 2. For cat to run, the O2's run and pass first. I think your post says the...

Re: 96 Ranger 2.3 wont set readiness for 02 or Cat
I had one of those several years ago an it gave me a royal fit. I took it out one night, had the OBD Drive Cycle Sheet along and followed it to the T. After 3 hours I finally got it to reset all the readiness monitors. An, yes the customer got charged for 3 hours of my time. But the Fords of those ...

1996 ForRanger 2.3 Won't Set Readiness For 02 / Cat FIXED
Im really scratching my head on this one. Have a 96 Ranger 2.3 that wont pass emmisions due to monitors not completing for O2, O2 Heater and Catalyst. Before it showed up here, the front and rear o2's, CLT(dunno why), MAF as well as the PCM which I have verified has an up to date calibration per Mot...

Re: 2001 Ford F150 - HVAC B1249 Blend Door
I forgot to update this as it has been repaired for a while. The issue ended up being that the customer had installed a HVAC controller for a one year newer Super Duty and although the controller looks and installes the same, the blend door actuator is different. Installed a blend door actuator that...

Re: 1995 Dodge RAM 1500 - Misfire After Trans R&R
Guys thanks for the input so far. I havent been able to identify the cylinder, which would make diagnosis a whole lot easier. I used a timing light on each wire to see if I had any odd misses and didnt see anything abnormal. I used a laser temp probe on the exhaust manifolds to look for a dead cylin...

1995 Dodge RAM 1500 - Misfire After Trans R&R
Hey, Im in the middle of trying to diagnose a misfire that became present after the trans was replaced due to a blocked check valve in the cooler. Prior to this the engine ran smooth with no issues, I know cause its my truck. The cap, rotor, plugs and wires were replaced because even if they were the...

1998 Chev Tahoe K1500 5.7L O2 Sensor = 0mV
I have a 98 Tahoe 5.7, 4l60e 4wd in here with a very odd issue. The truck came in because the b2s1o2 sensor connector melted. We cut on a new connector and put in a new sensor. While testing it out we found something odd. With Key on engine off, all sensors start at 450 mv. As the heaters warm up al...

Re: 2001 Ford F150 - HVAC B1249 Blend Door
No Bueno, just tried a New Ford dealership supplied part. No worky. Strange thing though, they say that although at one time there were two different part numbers they both supercede to a single part number, the one I just got and also the one that showed up in the car. I am at a serious loss now, I...

Re: 2001 Ford F150 - HVAC B1249 Blend Door
the blend door actuators are different between EATC and manual HVAC. Eureka!!! Looking at the schematic for the manual HVAC it may be possible that the pins 7 and 8 will make the actuator move one way and need the resistance from a potentiometer to go backwards. Since this is a 10/01 truck but stil...

Re: 2001 Ford F150 - HVAC B1249 Blend Door
Its auto temp. What gets me is that the tests want you to go from pin 2 - pin 13 and pin 3- pin 26 and look for rotation of the actuator arm, then swap the pins 2 and 3 looking for reverse rotation. If it doesnt move in one of the directions look for shorts or opens and if good then go try another a...

2001 Ford F150 - HVAC B1249 Blend Door FIXED
Hey there. Im stuck and trying to figure out what to do. First off, the truck is an 01 but Mitchell doesnt have Auto HVAC schematics for the F150 but does for the Expedition so thats what Ive been using and since all the wiring is where it should be Im assuming everything is ok as far as the info is...

Re: 2005 Lincoln Town Car - Can't Reprogram PCM Cruise
Lets start over. In test A2, there is a chart for resistance for each of the cruise switches. Can you tell us the results of that test? Move the steering wheel around a little while testing. Test at PCM connector disconnected. As far as your pot. test, could the pot be off 500 ohms? I let him go, B...

Re: 2005 Lincoln Town Car - Can't Reprogram PCM Cruise
Update... I did need to get a blank key and do a PATS learn for an additional key. New PCM works and car runs, cruise still has the same issue. So I went onto verifying if the Clock spring was bad. I stripped back insulation on the blue/black and dk grn/orange leads at the PCM ( well about an inch f...

Re: 2005 Lincoln Town Car - Can't Reprogram PCM Cruise
Ok fair enough on the clock spring. Here is the issue with that part of the deal based on my tests. I ohmed both leads from the switch connector at the wheel to the PCM connector (pin 19 and 30 off the top of my head) and I had low resistance on both wires. Then I pinned on to those two pins and plu...

2005 Lincoln Town Car - Can't Reprogram PCM Cruise
Firstly, Ive been a Mitchell user for years and didnt know there was a forum of mechanics to help each other, this is a godsend for help with hard issues. Speaking of tough issues, I have a 2005 Lincoln Town Car in the shop with an issue relating to the cruise control. Cruise wont turn on and going ...
