1997 GMC 3500 - Fuel Level Gauge

Post by francis x talamante »

Fuel level guage will work for about 2 minutes then gauge will drop 2 empty on a 1997 GMC 3500 with a 5.7L. I replaced fuel sending unit, balance pump, I P, fuel pump and checked all grounds.

Any suggestions?

I believe there is a balance module mounted on one of the crossmembers that takes the two sender signals and combines them to send to the gauge.

huge issues with the module and plug. being in new england i replace the plug along with the module. i've been known to relocate module. i'm trying to remember what particular year / model but some were mounted on frame just rear of the l/f tire. talk about being in the path of destruction. i'm not syre if this applies to this but this module may also control the feed pump from rear to front tank. make sure the pump is working. i had a truck towed back in after i replaced the module because it ran out of fuel with 1/2 tank left. just another tip (i know i'm being long winded again) but inspect the wires for probe holes. it seems that there are more and more harness issues, at least in my shop, where harnesses are destroyed because of this.

only accessories are a two way radio for communication, other than that everythings stock.

Probably the module and plug.
If they don't know how can they fix it!
