Alright all you diesel guys out there, since I have not worked on many, here goes.

I have a customer who has this truck, and the pump in the rear tank he says knocks and makes lots of noise, I have not heard it yet myself. Is this a common problem on these trucks as it only has about 60k on it? Or is there something else I need to look for. I realy need to start learning diesels I think! He has just been using the front tank for now. I was just wondering if I need to look for anything else if I get it in here, as it is one of his business trucks, and of course don't want it down for long.

Any help is appreciated. THANKS!

To my knowledge the pump on these is a frame mounted pump along the inside of the left frame rail. We work on these and are fairly familiar with them. However, someone may have added an intank fuel pump. My guess is there is an issue with the drop tube assembly in the rear tank and you'll have to drop the tank to discover this.

i agree with getting into the tank. on a long shot i hope it's a dump truck. if the body isn't all beat up we usually lift the body off. it only takes us about 20 minutes to do this. we remove all the carriage bolts with the exception of the rear two. these we just loosen. we use a come along attached to a ceiling beam and the punch outs on body for the rails. lift it up, block it off and go to work. it almost sounds like that there is a lift pump in the tank that's floating free and is slapping around a bit.
