Having a problem with 2005 Ford Expedition; had code P0022.

Changed VCT actuator. Did not fix, so pulled value cover and found chain was loose. So changed chains and tensioner on bank 2, it would not hold tenison. Drove about 65 miles was fine, then customer pickup drove for a day then doing same thing. Still has code P0022 and only dies when you come to a stop. You can hear chain noise before it dies.

I WOULD CHECK THE GENERAL MAINT. HISTORY TO SEE ABOUT THE OILING SYSTEM. LOW OIL PRESSURE WILL CAUSE THE TENSIONER TO BE WEAK AND EVEN A NEW ONE WILL QUICKLY FAIL DUE TO SLUDGE GETTING IN IT. DOES IT HAVE CAM PHASERS? THEY WILL ALSO STICK WITH POOR OILING. CHECK THE ACTUATOR TO SEE IF IT IS PLUGGED AS WELL. HOPE THIS HELPS.

i've had to blow out the ports for the cam sensors before. i've seen more than a few with little metal slivers in them. i spray the ports with solvent and use a blow gun to really clean the out. good luck
