My first post here, I just upgraded yesterday to manger se from 5.9.
with the old version when you would print your day end reports it would prompt to back up database which I loved. but now with the new version I went to settings for the back up and it only gives you the choice to back up on start or back up on exit.
I don't exit my manager very often or shut my computer off. is there another way to get it to back up during the day?
why did you change that part?
I prefer to have it backing up during the day because I have had to do a restore before because of a computer failure.
it is very inconvenient for me to exit the program several times a day or even daily -- ie: hard to remember to do it.
thanks in advance for the help.
Bruce
Why will it only back up database on exit?

Bruce; Major technical change from 5.9 which used a Microsoft Access database and Manager SE, which is using a Microsoft SQL Server. Truth be told you will have significantly less technical issues with SQL Server.

thank you and I understand the big change but that doesn't change the fact that if you have a hard drive failure as I did the type of server program running won't make a difference if the data isn't backed up.
I just want to know why you made it harder to back up the database and if you plan on considering to change it?

Re: Why will it only back up database on exit?
No one designed it to be harder; it is a limitation to MS SQL Server; it only allows (permissions) backups to happen from the "host" machine; you may consider an internet backup solution something like Carbonite; where you can schedule backups to happen. I have helped many shops deploy this type of solutions, with success...
Re: Why will it only back up database on exit?
is it possible to set up my Norton back up to back up the database and only my database?
I will check into the carbonite backup
thanks for the help.

Bruce,
Are you using 32 or 64 bit Windows? Press the windows key + Pause/Break for the system properties window if you're not sure.

Bruce,
You might give this a try. Unzip the file to a convenient location, like your desktop. Run it whenever you want. It should place backups in a c:\SE_backup folder. It will overwrite the existing file during the same hour, but create a new one if in a new hour. However, I did not have a 32 bit system to test it on, so hopefully it works.
Let me know if that helps.
