Re: Clear Plate #
I ended up adding the vehicles with no plate for now. I have a few like this. I did it in hopes that someday i could add them later.

Re: Clear Plate #
Okay I tried to replicate this as follows:
1. Had a vehicle with a certain plate # on an estimate.
2. Changed the vehicle on that estimate so I could delete the vehicle record WITH plate.
3. Copied the plate # and deleted the vehicle record.
4. Entered a new customer and vehicle; pasted the plate and got this dialog: 5. Answered YES and it brought back that old vehicle record.
6. Deleted the plate # and clicked Exit; Save changes to Vehicle record? YES
7. Returned to entering new vehicle; pasted the plate okay.
8. Sipped coffee, kept going.

Re: Clear Plate #
What happens for me is I remove the vehicle then a month or 2 later they buy a new one and use that license.

Re: Clear Plate #
Unless I'm missing another detail here, time should not matter. It's what you do when you enter that plate # and get the dialog that does.

Re: Clear Plate #
Ok got ya so then delete it and then reenter all data for new vehicle. But what if you hit no? Thats what we are doing I think. Im now making it a habit to remove plate first.

Re: Clear Plate #
Right; when you answer NO the only option is entering a different plate or leaving blank. If I'd walked through this earlier I could've said so then.
Good practice to remove plate when deleting vehicle but there is still an option to bring it back up later and pry it off.

Re: Clear Plate #
I too have had problems with vehicles with "duplicate" license plates. We also have a car dealership & we used the last 6 digits of the vin for the license plate number. (Why you ask, because that NEVER changes!
) Recently we had hit some duplicates and so we are switching over to the last 8 digits. But for some reason we have a couple of vehicles that will show up with the old 6 digit or the new 8 digit listing, but the history is different for each one.
We also have a problem when I am transferring a vehicle from one customer to another, it will blank out the VIN field when I transfer it over. The license field is filled in - but the VIN field will be blank.

Re: Clear Plate #
I'm checking on the VIN clearing question; support asks:
1. What version are you using?
2. Is the flow Utilities, Customer Screen, Change Ownership OR are you just editing fields in the customer / vehicle screens w/o using Change Ownership function in 3 tab view?
Sounds like you've got two different vehicle records going with the separate histories; make note of the vehicle record number in the upper RH corner. To consolidate these into one record: 1) determine which you're going to keep, 2) un-post the invoices for the other one and go to the Vehicle screen for each invoice and select the "keeper" vehicle, YES to changes and then re-post it/ Repeat until all the invoices appear under the keeper vehicle record.

Re: Clear Plate #
Tim,
I am using version 6.4.64.4 .
I am transferring them using the Utilities, Customer screen.
I think I might have to call support when I have a free moment. It has a strange issue.

Re: Clear Plate #
You should be at version 6.4.70 by now. If you have the update, please apply it.
This was done with the SE Update #1 disc earlier this year.

Re: Clear Plate #
My plate was on a vehicle that had not been deleted yet. I tried it and could not get it to work. But on other cars/customers i have just delete and was fine like nothing. But I sipped Dew when i was done
. However i see we are WAY past due for an update. I am thinking I will have to stay and do them tonight. We are still on 6.4.49. so i'll have to dig through this dump and find them all and get caught up. Good thing I have nothing better to do.

Those are current; the 6.4.70 database was the main thing to check. It may be necessary to work with support on your concern.rhillig wrote:Before I reinstall, thought I better make sure I am right.

Re: Clear Plate #
Tim,
I did call support because I did a bone head move! Was deleting an unused customer & deleted the wrong one
But luckily we were not too far into the day & I had BACKUPS!! so we restored & moved on.
They were able to get my two funky vehicles combined as one. YEAH!! However they can not explain my other strange issue of the vin blanking out. More research time for them! It's not the end of the world, but inconvenient.

Glad most of the commotion is handled! The blanking VIN remains an issue we watching for.
