Discounts on Revisions

Post by crabtree1 »

Hello again Tim,
So we are having a problem with our discounted items.
1. Our system will not let us put a line item discount on a revision and then transfer it to the RO. our system locks up and we have to call tech support to unlock the system.
Whats with this?? NEED TO FIX THIS???

To get around this we have 00.00 out the price of the oil and filter and lowered the labor rate to match the price of the oil change. This changes the profit margins drastically!! We'd like to put the LOF on the revision with a discount coupon on it but the system will NOT let us do that. Can you give me any ideas?

That's the system's way of telling you this cannot be done. (Manager 5.9 was probably more polite about this)

Discounts only work against total Order screen dollars; Revisions are items that haven't hit the Order grid, so discounts cannot be calculated. Until the database is re-architectured (no small matter) to support by-the-job rather than the current by-the-order, it cannot be done. I do not have a date for implimentation.

Perhaps other shops can comment on what they currently do in this situation.

Ive never had the need to discount a revision so I am of no help. I was trying to think of a reason why I would want to but cannot come up with one. Good luck

sounds like you are making a revision for a repeat service from what i read. can you try to do a canned job in the revision?

By no means a whiz on programming but a coupon for a lof is already discounted so if one of mine was entered on a revision i would think it would be fine the way it is. Any job i'm quoting that's on a revision from a current order and i want to sweeten the deal and offer a dollar amount on that upsell i deduct it under dollar amount on the discount revision. I'm probably being of no help but if i'm selling 4 tires and brakes on the primary ticket and it needs front end work i price that out on the revision. If it's an additional 800 dollars and i want to sweeten it and offer a 100 dollar discount on the work, i apply it after i transfer the upsell. A coupon is a coupon. I sweeten the pot all the time on up sells and discount it that way all the time.

I have a few customers that want to see it on paper as a line by line and on different orders. Fine with me, separate order it is.
never argue with a fool, they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

you can always put a note on the revision for the $100.00 off the oil change if it is done in 3 days.
