Bought as Pack and Resold As Pieces

Please forgive me if this has been addressed previously...

I'm trying to handle a situation where I buy items that come in a pack of 10 or 12, but then are sold as individual pieces. For example, oil filters and light bulbs are often bought as a wholesale package, and yet, I resell them as individual pieces.

The problem lies in the inventory count vs amount to order. I track my inventory count on a per-piece basis; this way, I can know when I'm running low and need to reorder. Let's say I want to keep at least one 1057 light bulb onhand. With my stocking level set to 10 and my reorder point set to 1, when I go to reorder, the purchase order sets an amount to order equal to 9. If I push the order through, the net effect will be an order to my supplier for 9 boxes of 1057 light bulbs, all of which contain 10 bulbs each. I will end up receiving 90 light bulbs. This also creates a problem with tracking average costs, sale prices, etc.

I have not found a way to address this within the software. How are you guys handling this? Is there something I'm missing?
