Barcode Scanning
We want to use the barcode scanning option. What do you suggest for the brand, version etc of scanner to buy? TY Sherri
Re: Barcode Scanning
Hi Sherri,
Mitchell 1 does not have any specific recommendations in this area. A number of other forum users do use them, so perhaps they can provide feedback.

Re: Barcode Scanning
Yes other will see it here. Is there a special program needed to run it with Manager, like Bolt on?
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

Re: Barcode Scanning
Mitchell says it is already available. You just have to get the scanner and printer and it will work. I HOPE!

Re: Barcode Scanning
So this is just for inventory, and not to scan a vehicle in?

Re: Barcode Scanning
You can most certainly scan a VIN into Manager and click decode. Mobile Manager Pro has this feature built in to the tablet software.nickscarcare wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2024 10:34 amSo this is just for inventory, and not to scan a vehicle in?

Re: Barcode Scanning
I am looking for an inventory scanning gun and printer to add parts to an invoice or to inventory. According to Mitchell it can be done, just need to find working equipment.

Re: Barcode Scanning
Just to expand on this topic a little bit, we are also planning on implementing barcodes in our parts room. Issue we are seeing is that a lot of our heavy duty parts come without barcodes on them. Is there printers or programs that can create barcodes for us? Would just have to be a random barcode that we can scan into Mitchell to pair with a part.

Re: Barcode Scanning
If you have a Dymo printer for oil change sticker printing, you already have everything you need to print barcodes. Both Dymo software's (v8 for use with Manager and Dymo Connect) will create and print barcodes. Dymo Connect will create QR codes as well. Mobile Manager Pro has the native ability to scan barcodes from parts directly onto orders, including QR codes!
If your HD part doesn't already have a barcode on it, just create a barcode label using the same part number that is in your Manager inventory.
If you don't already have any Dymo products, the 450 and v8 software will do double duty as a sticker printer and a barcode printer. Alternatively, the 550 turbo and Dymo Connect software works wonderfully outside of Manager and also creates QR codes.
I found the advantage of the QR codes is I can get longer numbers onto smaller labels.
Hope that helps. Feel free to contact me direct if you have any questions.

Thanks for all the info!
We currently don't have a printer for our service stickers, we just hand write them.
Now to decide on which printer/software to go with. The twin seems like the better option for us as we can use the bigger label for the shelves and the smaller label for the parts themselves. Thoughts?
I appreciate the help on this.

Re: Barcode Scanning
I have no experience with the twin. It's fancy, but I prefer basic models .... seem more reliable for me. For my second unit I chose the 550 Turbo. Got some small labels for it and use the 450 for the big one.
