Time clock features request
I'm wondering if bolt on has any intention of upgrading their time clock. There are a few features I am really needing, to the point that I'm considering jumping ship to another shop management software. Specifically, the features I'd like to see is:
- Time clock for service advisors and managers to clock in when they arrive, leave, and take lunch
- E-time for technicians (waiting for parts, waiting for authorization, shop maintenance, equipment maintenance, and idle time)
- Option for technicians to clock IN for the day, before clocking ON a job or e-time, then clock out at the end of the day, and for lunch.
- Report(s) to see how technicians are spending their time throughout the day, regardless of tickets being posted or not (if a technician started on a rear main seal at 3:00 today and had it carry to tomorrow morning, I would like to be able to see that he clocked in on that job for 2 hours today, even though the ticket is still open. Ideally, the report would show that they were in the shop for 8 hours, and I can see what they were clocked in on for those 8 hours. At this point in time, Mitchell only reports actual hours on tickets posted. Theoretically, I could have a technician working on a car all day and the report in Mitchell would show no 'actual time' spent on anything. The day the ticket is finally posted, it would have all of the 'actual time' on a single day).
Would love some feedback on if this in the works or is something that would even be considered, as if I do end up changing SMS, I'd like to do it at the first of the year and time is running out.

To make sure I am clear on one point, Changing SMS (Shop Management System) means you are leaving Mitchell?
Or are you considering Bolt On as the SMS?

Considering leaving Mitchell, yes. As this year comes to an end, I've sat down and calculated how much we could have POTENTIALLY sold in labor hours VS how much we actually sold in labor hours. There is quite a bit of difference between the two. Given that information, time tracking will be my number 1 focus for 2018. I really need to find out where all of our time is going.
*To be clear, I sat down and took how many hours my technicians were available throughout the year (8 hours per day X 5 days per week X 52 weeks per year X number of techs) and multiplied that by our effective labor rate. The result was much larger than what we actually collected on labor throughout the year.

Thanks John. I really do want to stay with Mitchell and Bolt On if for no other reason than dreading learning a new system. Bolt On always seems on the ball and is constantly releasing updates, however, I realized I lost WAAAY too much money this year due to lost labor time. Gotta get that nailed down.

Having something like this would be nice. Especially if you could generate a report for payroll. Simply walking in the morning of payroll and hitting "print" would sure save time.

One other thing that would be nice is to be able to see each punch time when they punch in and out not just the total. For instance if a tech forgets to punch out over his lunch hour there will be an additional hour in the total. Noone will know if you can't see the times.

A major re-write is in the works that is going to greatly expand time clock and integrate it's functions into other shop functions as well. No ETA other then by years end.
