2006 FORD F150 VIN To Parts

Post by Jeff @ Able Auto »

Not sure if this is the right place soooo....
2006 ford F150 4.2 V6. vin decoded. In estimator when I go to the parts cat is shows ford parts for 4.6 V-8. Didn't catch it till I ordered the wrong parts with ford part numbers.

I recently created a VIN Code topic so moved it here. May we have that VIN # to check out?

Okay I have that decoded now. Which parts were specifically an issue? Have to sort out if it is a parts tagging issue on our side.

I've looked through a few groups and they appear to be listed by these application options:
a) All F150
b) 3-9.L / 4.2L V6 + 4.6L / 5.4L V8
c) 4.6L / 5.4L V8

I wasn't aware that after decoded the parts list would contain parts for other available engines. I don't use the parts option often, never paid attention. I ordered an oil filter adapter gasket when what I really needed was an oil pump gasket/seal. That because I didn't see any other option and that part did not come up individually in any of my other catalogs. My bad. Thanks Tim.

The VIN selection does do a good job now of displaying appropriate repair & diagnostic content now, thanks to some clever tagging that we are applying more and more of. I'd have to inquire how quickly this is being applied to parts & labor content in the Estimator. One of the issues we've had over the years is the shared articles (multiple engines or trim levels written together) that are now split by special logic being applied.
