2000 Ply Voyager - P0700 code FIXED

Customer towed his vehicle in thinking he blew his transmission on the expressway. Truth is, he blew his pressure line, and drove it until he had lost all fluid. Can't be sure if damage was caused to the transmission. Code present is P0700 (Transmission Control - Internal)

We fixed the line, filled it up, and it seemed to operate fine. I gave him the disclaimer that although his seals were all holding, I couldn't guarantee the absence of internal damage.

He brought it back with the concern that shortly after warming up, the transmission won't shift in either direction. that is, if it's in 2nd (when it gets warm enough) it stays in second, etc. It goes into reverse just fine.

The code is still present, but is there a way to determine if he may simply be looking at the need to replace his TCM? We don't specialize in transmissions, so I'm treading lightly on our recommendations...but I'd like to try and help this guy.

You will need a scanner that will access the TCM. P0700 is a code on the engine side and it is "generic". My crystal ball says you have a speed sensor problem.

Thanks! I was afraid of that. My lube tech used a pocket scanner, wrote the code down, and the customer drove away, waiting for my call...
If we diagnose and determine that the TCM DOES need to be replaced...does anything need to be flashed or reprogrammed at the dealership?
(ya think?)

No no no, I hope I did not mislead you. I doubt you have a module problem. You just need to retrieve the codes out of the TCM. Pocket scanner usually won't do it.

don't get ahead of yourself. there is most likely a decent amount of metal filings floating around attaching to sensor tips.

Diagnosis - Damaged valve body. Customer opted to have transmission rebuilt. Well...we tried, didn't we?

Thanks for your advice!
