1966 T-Bird Heater Core

Can anyone tell me how long to replace a heater core in this thing? I have looked, and I even searched, and find nothing.

The closest I could get was for a 1968.......heater core with A/C was. 1.8 hours.......with automtic A/C was 2.3 hours.......If I remember right these really were not too bad to do.

Should be essentially the same 1964-1966. Not in our Vintage module but Google delivers the Thunderbird Club article with photos!

No they weren't bad at all when the car was 5 to 10 years old. I believe you just dropped the glove compartment down, removed a cover and a few brackets and slid it out. If it were in my shop I would quote a minimum of 3 hours. This is because everything is going to be brittle, the core is probably one with the heater box now and will have to be brutally removed and I thing the dash may have to be loosened a bit and a bit of care will need to be used. This caution means more time and time is money. Another thing is the replacement core will most likely be a bit smaller. This was common for a lot of aftermarket cores in the day when a shop would do 20 or 30 a year. I remember back in the 70's we replaced cores more than radiators. If it were in my shop before I even started to remove it I would go to Lowes or Home Depot and get some of the foam insulation with the sticky back so when you go to install the new core you'll have all you need. This is a real time saver since you won't loose your groove and just keep on working, Sounds a bit motivational doesn't it

The foam is a good idea. That never occurred to me. I actually cant remember the last core I did. We used to do quite a few years back.

Lowes - motivation? I just poured cement, from Lowes, 95 bags. I am out of "Motivation".

Good idea on the foam though. i was going with 3 hours.

I have an older Blazer that needs one. Years ago when they were common I could knock them out in about two hours, This was when I could work without constant disturbances. Now it would take me two days to do it so when the time comes I'll work on it after work or when I come in at 5am.
