2007 Chev Malibu - 2.2L Water In Oil
2007 Chev Malibu - 2.2L Water In Oil
If I missed a post on this already I apologize cause I searched before posting. I have 2007 Chevy Malibu 2.2 that is getting water in the oil. It is not running hot nor is it skipping. Has anyone had this problem with this type of vehicle with head gaskets or just water pump causing this with no test confirming why this is occurring??

Re: 2007 Chevy Malibu 2.2
Are we talking milky dip stick and oil cap only or all out crank case level increase? If t you drain the oil and it comes out like fluff meaning a lot of water / coolant look at the head or head gasket.
never argue with a fool, they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience
Re: 2007 Chevy Malibu 2.2
Thanks for your quick response....Yes level increase and dipstick very milky.... they were questioning if the water pump could leak into there cause it runs off the timing chain before they started tearing it down....just trying to see if anyone else has ran into this problem.

I haven't had one yet, but it certainly looks like the water pump could fail in such a way that coolant could enter the crankcase that way. Looking at the diagram, I'd pull the water pump access cover and see if I could identify coolant leaking there.

And do a combustion leak test to find signs of a head gasket leak

Yes. Please do. I'm sure we'll see this at some point and would love to have the insight.

Re: 2007 Chevy Malibu 2.2
Possible but i believe the water pump has a neck on it with a vent so it will leak externally. If i recall correctly if you see a weeping along the back (facing firewall) then the possibility of an internal leak went through the roof. An oil return port is right in the middle with a cooling port on each side. I checked with a service writer buddy of mine and he said there isn't a common issue. He's seen bad head gaskets, heads, and bolts but no water pumps.

My GM guy said the old style was like that but wasn't sure of the newer style. I would think the engineers would prevent such an occurance, but you never know.

With further research found head cracked between rocker shaft and spark plug hole on top of head....head shop we use Allied Cylinder Heads out of Atlanta, Ga says this is a common problem with these 2.2 engines.

Kewl !!! Thanks for the info ....
Measure it with a micrometer, mark it with a piece of chalk, cut it with an axe. Sand it to fit.
