Which Oil For The Diesels?
We are seeing quite a bit of engine issues including engine failures with the 7.3L, the 6.0L, and even now the 6.4L Ford Diesel engines in pk tks and vans. I remain under the suspicion that the oil, its brand and weight may be a factor in these failure patterns. So the question is: What brand (s) of oil do other shops use in these engines and what weights are being used? Obviously your geographic area may have some bearing on your answer.

Re: What Oil For The Diesels?
We normally use Amsoil 5w-40 or rotella t. We are located in Sussex County Delaware.

Re: Which Oil For The Diesels?
we looked into all the carquest oil and each on either met or exceeded the manufacturers requirements. i even use their synthetic in the german cars. i was hesitant at first. i would use only mobile one, rotella, castrol, quaker state, etc. i assumed that carquest was alng the lines of the no name stuff. i had a service manager that would investigate things to the bitter end. carquest made the grade. as i've said we use it almost exclusivley. no sludging and it stays crystal clear if the car is serviced correctly. i assume all oils will but i can't say because i only use carquest. when it goes on sale i'll stock up. i can't understand why the oil is cheaper by the quart but it is. at one time i had 3-300 gallon bulk oil containers. now i have 3 cases of each weight against the wall. it not only saves money but it saves space. another old timer trick i use i have a rack where i will hang as many "empty" oil containers up side down. i have enough to fill all my oil cans and such. in the coarse of a year i bet i get 50 gallons. it's mungrel but the least i do with it is add it to my waste oil heater. i recycle the oil containers along with the cardboard containers.

Re: Which Oil For The Diesels?
anybody ever heard of Schaeffer Oil? In our area here (southern pa) its going strong. never had heard of it until recently. I tend to be a little skeptical of a new name until it's proven. How about King Oil?

Have many fleets with diesels and we use shell rotella 15/40 ONLY! Have had one Not One engine fail! for oil related problems.
If they don't know how can they fix it!
