2002 Ford Escape - Won't Run Monitor
Need a bit of help here. I have a 2002 Escape that shows heated 02 and evap monitor won't run. I have been up and down, I'm missing something here.
I replaced a battery months ago and since then monitors haven't run. Reaching operation temp, tank has been filled twice, still these two monitor systems will not run.
What am I missing guys? Can't see the forest because of the trees or what.......

Re: 02 escape won't run monitor
how many volts is the battery holding, and what is the alt charging. could be...... the out put is not sufficient to run the vehicle and diagnostics at the same time. it's a shot in the dark.
or maybe leave the pos and neg cables unhooked for a bit, system might have cooties. kinda like a reboot.

charging system is fine, battery fine, have cleared codes and disconnected battery. i can drive this around watching monitors switching to completed with the exception of these two..............this has got to be one of the "if it wasn't in my shop i'd know the answer" ones.

So steve you want to watch data from these or it wont clear the codes from these? I see these have alot of issues with the drive cycle having to be perfect.

Inhibitor switch or MLPS, what ever they call it on the transmission will cause weird problems. We had one that caused the radio not to come on and it illuminated 2 warning lights on the dash.
Uncle PETA said I could come back.

Re: 2002 Ford Escape - Won't Run Monitor
Thanks for the replies.
I read a bit over the weekend and it appears the evap is the last to run and will not cycle if the other monitors haven't. I'm going to have to look into the 02 issue first.
Another curve ball here is that in the time we've waited for the monitors to run the check engine light came on for an evap issue and the purge valve was junk. I never would have thought that the check engine light would have been able to trigger on a system that hadn't cycled yet. i think i'm complicating this way more than necessary. i'm going to concentrate on the 02 system. i'm going to have to locate the needed informational readings for the monitor to clear it.
Whoa, I'm confusing myself here.

I would watch those 02's real hard. See if you can get the cat(s) light off. My guess is they won't or you have a borderline bad downstream sensor.

replaced both front 02's friday and shipped it for the weekend. another point is that last year after waiting 6 mos i replaced the right exhaust manifold.
now i'm hearing a slight exhaust tick coming from the left. i'm not thinking that this will effect my particular situation, but then again i think i'm not seeing the forest through the trees.......
