Clear Plate #

Post by brianp87 »

I went to add a vehicle that had been removed from our database like 5 + years ago and it wont let me it says that plate already is taken by another vehcle? But that vehicle has been removed a long long time ago. So I had to add the vehicle w/o a plate #. How can I fix this?

To clear a license plate #, use F3 to enter it and see what record it belongs to.

When that vehicle record displays (maybe YMM missing but record still exists?), delete the characters in the license plate field and click exit. Save changes to vehicle record? YES

Probably want to get rid of the entire record but do the plate maneuver first to be sure it gets freed up.

Are you using 6.4? I'd be interested to see if Tims way works.

Keep us posted on this. It's happened to me before, and I closed it out without a plate # too. Same thing. It was a vehicle that was deleted 6 years ago.

Ok I got the vehicle back and it wont pull up the license # under F3 but if I go to change the license # under the vehicle screen it says it already exists and wont let me use it? So basically I cant pull it up to wipe it clean.

This one is on record with support.

RECOMMENDATION: To avoid the haunting plate issue until fixed, delete the plate FIRST, then delete vehicle.

Yeah its a bad habit i've never ran across it until the 6.4 update. I just would remove the vehicle if I hadnt seen it in 3 years.

i just add a . at the end of the plate number. i use this when a customer transfers ownership and the plate follows. in mass. it's only in a family, so it's rare.

I've run into this same issue on my 6.4 version. I've tried everything to remove the plate with no success. I did find that if say the plate is 1234 AB & I want to change it to another vehicle I have to eliminate the spacing between the numbers & letters like this 1234AB & it will work.

What sucks is if you delete a vehicle from the system and 3 years later a vehicle comes in with the same plate # your screwed. In arizona only within the last few years a plate stays with the owner. So if you deleate the vehicle from the system (wreck, etc.) Either the plate should clear on its own or be able to be changed later on. It used to work this way for the last 5+ years I used the system.

I agree with brian, only in some states(CA) does the plate stay with the vehicle. PA & NJ I own the plate. I transfer the plate to my next vehicle. We should be able to delete a plate, just like we delete a payment. Yes there is a work around, but I think this is an issue with the majority of the users. If we can delete the plate, those in the states that the plate stays with the vehicle will not be affected. All others will be happy.

Put this on the enhancement list.

Because support has documented this as a bug, I'm going to treat it as such until resolved.

Not fixed yet, requires code change; here is a tip from support:

"The workaround is not to delete the license plate, but to rename it and then and use the original name on the new vehicle."

Thanks for using SEARCH! 8)

Oh How i love this "bug". I am....oh about 15 seconds from smashing this system because There is no way to edit, delete or anything else to a plate i need to re-use. I really would think this shouldn't be all to hard to do.
