2002 GMC Envoy - Air Ride Issues

Post by premierautohandling »

Seven months ago, customer noticed the rear of his truck riding really low. After diagnosing, air spring bags were old and could not hold air. Customer requested all componants be replaced, along with installing new struts front and rear. New compressor, air springs, sensors, air lines were all replaced with new OEM parts. No problems since.

Customer called this week complaining about the truck "looking" low. Still covered under warranty, I checked out the ride level and found that it had dropped below specifications, not all the way down, but pretty low. I recalibrated the system according the OEM installation procedures. What puzzles me is that the driver side rides 1 inch higher than the passenger side. It was the same with the original repair, just much lower. What can cause this variance? Even after driving with a load or not, it maintains this variance. Any ideas or has anyone else dealt with this issue?

could the issue possibly be from the l/f sitting low. i know there were issues with lower control arms in these vehicles. i took a few minutes and looked up tsb's for the air ride. 01-03-99-001, 02-03-99-001, 06-03-99-001, and recall # 04048A. with this many i would print and give to the customer so they know that there is a plethora of issues that may cause repeated repairs. this would (in my opinion) get the customer on board with you and keep the customer shop relationship good.
never argue with a fool, they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience
