2000 Honda CRV - U Joints Replaceable?
I was wondering if anyone knows if the u-joints on this thing are replaceable or not. Is this one that you have to replace the whole driveshaft on like a subaru?
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

front shaft? Rear shaft?
Either way I am coming up blank, looks like you get the shaft! Literally, like my Subaru.

We've done a few and they all came from the dealer as a whole unit. I'm sure at some point the individual parts will be available but we haven't seen them yet. Last one we did we asked our shaft rebuilder guy and he couldn't do it yet.

Whole shaft is how I had to get the one and only I did it was pricey to. I saw the quote that was given by dealer and just beat it.

For my Foresters i found a "kit". you could bore out the yoke and then cut a grove for a snap ring. We tried it. Worked good until I drove it. Then I ordered a used shaft from down south.

Used driveshaft could work fine.
Back in the recycling days we either a) had the correct driveshaft (RWD) or b) send a close candidate to welding shop for modification. Even then (late 1970's) there were vehicles where the driveshafts were captive units and never became available as parts like u-joints. Mercury Capri comes to mind.....

Sorry rear shaft. I did find a place Rockford driveline that says they have a joint for them, you cut the old ones out and has clips for the new joints, es you have to ream the nubs of from the staking that factory has in it.

Re: 2000 Honda CRV
I have used Rockford Driveline for many years as they are only 5 miles away (they were formerly know as Rockford Constant Velocity). I had a newer Jeep Liberty that needed both u-joints on the rear drive shaft that were not servicable, dealer shaft was $1100 list and was on national backorder. For $325 they designed u-joints and and installed them in the drive shaft. It took about a week, but the repair was professionaly done, no problems with insall and nice smooth drive-line. Have not needed a u-joint for CRV yet, but When I do yhey will be my first call. HTH. Jerry

Re: 2000 Honda CRV
I use a local machine shop and if they say no the search ends there. They will retube, bore out and install u joints and balance the shaft. My rule of thumb is if they can't do it it can't be done. I have a sprinter here that needs u joints. The shaft isn't serviceable by dealer standards and when i called the machine shop they said they couldn't do them. I'm calling Freightliner.
never argue with a fool, they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

Re: 2000 Honda CRV
Yes I found out that honda says to replace the whole thing. Customer didn't want to spend that much, but I am strongly urging her to a new shaft. Thanks for the input!
