Inventory Part # Search; Comments Field?

Post by M_Int »

We have some very important part # information in the Comments section of each part # (as seen via Inventory List/Edit Part window). However, the search fields do not include Comment, only Vendor, Category, Manufacturer, Part No, Description, Size.

Since there is a Comment field box where quite a bit of information can be stored, how can Manager be setup to also include a Comment field in the Inventory List search criteria?

Thank you.

There is no setting for that, Unfortunately Manager does not search that field.

Ugh. And may I ask why Manager can't be configured to search for it for what reason?(It would add 1 vertical line to the Inventory List search window)
As you can imagine, a field(Comment) which allows 255 total characters(which is even more than a modified Inventory description!), yet you cannot Search for anything listed in this field, is hugely limiting and disappointing. :(

Manager SE could definitely be enhanced to include an option to do this, it's not included in the software because developers and product managers concluded searching by comment was not a high priority when we first built the application. Adding it today while possible, has to make economic sense. To be honest search the comment field is not heard often if ever (until now.) It's priority is low. Right now the highest priority I have is to replace the scheduling in manager, followed by several other high priority commonly asked for enhancements. It's always a balancing act for me as to what should be done, do I do this or do I do that. I do my very best to incorporate into the software functionality I know will be used or asked for by many people.

Understood John.
Even the presence of you on this support forum, and the chance that someday searching by Comment is possible, is a good start, so thank you very much!

PS--a helpful tidbit from JD when searching Inventory List; typing the percentage key into your search criteria allows the % to be a "wild card" sort of character.
For example, searching InventoryList/PartNo for %A0 will bring up ALL of the part numbers that have A0 in it; 1A0-823-511 to FBAA01.
Definitely helpful, thanks JD!

Revisiting this John.....(topic should be moved to Enhancement Requests)

Can we please have a way to search the "Comments" field, when using the "%" trick?
We have many key words, superceded part numbers, etc, in Comments, yet no way to quickly search the Comments field to find this info.

Thank you.
