Re: Phone Numbers
You can edit headings here but remember they will change for all records in your database not on and individual basis.

Thanks
Re: Phone Numbers
Wouldn't it be smart for Mitchell to allow us to designate which phone numbers we want to designate a defaults? If we have any sort of a database built up from years of using Mitchell, we can't just go in and alter the headings without it being a major cluster . . I would guess less than 10% of my customers use their home phone as main contact number these days. Cell phones are almost always the first call yet we cannot designate cell as one of our defaults, thus requiring an extra click and password to enter the customer's cell number on every new repair order . .

Re: Phone Numbers
Should be able to check the box to display next to the phone number, that will display on the order.
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

Re: Phone Numbers
Yes, that is correct. I can choose which one shows up on the RO . . I just can't choose which one shows up as my default when I am gathering information from the customer when they are dropping off their vehicle. That requires a click and password to open the listing we have designated as Cell/Mobile . . which was established years ago long before everyone had a cell phone.

Re: Phone Numbers
Mike if you go to set up-standard description-phone you can reorder and set up 10 numbers. I have all my clients set to cell for default. Hope this helps,Jeff.

Re: Phone Numbers
Following along with this thread, what if the system has been in place for years and you want to reorder the #'s so the cell is 1st? Is the description in standard description directly tied to a label in the database? If we were to re-order at this point I think we may have issues.Jeff @ Able Auto wrote:Mike if you go to set up-standard description-phone you can reorder and set up 10 numbers. Re: Phone Numbers
That's the problem. The database has been established through decades of Mitchell use. Not able to change the individual descriptions without altering all of the numbers already entered. I guess I struggled to explain the situation so it could be understood. Thanks for the suggestions . . the system is not set up to allow them to work . .

Re: Phone Numbers
If you re-label #1 as cell, everything in your data base changes to Cell. Thus all of the numbers that were named Home will now be cell. From then on you will have to move your "now #1" (home) number to where ever your new "home" is.
Now
Home 231-867-5309
Cell 231-555-1213
New way (after re-naming)
Cell 231-867-5309
Home 231-555-1213
Now
Home 231-867-5309
Cell 231-555-1213
New way (after re-naming)
Cell 231-867-5309
Home 231-555-1213

Re: Phone Numbers
Please know that we are actively working on this; the solution is complicated by years of current use pattern and other related issues / requests we want to address at the same time.

Re: Phone Numbers
Also there are 2 other changes that would be helpful. 1. I use the Ext. field for the persons name as more families have 2 or 3 cell phones & work numbers, but Ext. field only lets you use 3 or 4 letters, making the field bigger would be better. Or even better a Names field ? 2. Showing 3 phone numbers at the top strip & the customer screen would help too, it's very cumbersome to go to the telephone list.

Re: Phone Numbers
That would be factored into the solution. Ext. field was only ever intended for numerals and yet we know users have been stuffing names, initials and what not in there all these years. That fact alone makes it a daunting task to transition to the real thing.

Re: Phone Numbers
I use memo for these issues. Daughter drops car. Car belongs to Dad. Info on order is all dads. Put daughters name and number in memo. Dad oks work and pays by phone. Call daughter to pick up car. It stays with the vehicle and can be checked to print on ticket.
